FlyQuest has successfully modified its comprehensive Aviation Fundamentals course to create a One-Day Overview for organizations interested in exposing their young people to the joys of flight and the many opportunities of an aerospace career. We are particularly focused on enhancing STEM education opportunities for youth from the age of 11 to 18.
The One-Day Aviation Overview is a hands-on, five-hour program for a limited number of students at the FlyQuest and Signature Flight Support facilities at Huntsville International Airport. Students learn about airplanes, flying and aerodynamics as they rotate among three primary programs: pilot ground school overview, air traffic control operations and flying airplanes, using computer simulators and FlyQuest’s 6 Degrees of Freedom flight simulator. FlyQuest has successfully deployed this program for organizations, including the Girl Scouts of North Central Alabama and the Boy Scouts of America.
The program typically culminates with an on-site experience including the opportunity to fly with an instructor in FlyQuest’s unique 6 Degrees of Freedom flight simulator. In some cases, the onsite experience may include visits to functional areas of the airport, such as maintenance operations, cargo facilities, etc. It is important to note that these visits are not guaranteed — since they visit active work areas — operational and security factors dictate feasibility.
